Brief Answer:
Consider an addition of a stronger medicine (but less strong than Percocet)

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

After an acute injury, it's usually tolerable to take 600 mg of ibuprofen (i.e. 3 of the 200 mg ibuprofen at a time) up to 3 times a day (after eating) for 1 week. That is if you don't have stomach/acid irritation or a history of diminished kidney function.

If you are needing to take this much for more than a week, then it means you may need a different kind of medication while you heal. Percocet is very strong, and is for the most severe kind of pain, but there are other kinds of medications that are less strong and sedating than Percocet, which may allow you to take fewer ibuprofen.

Consider asking your doctor for something of a step down to Percocet for the next 1-2 weeks, such as Tylenol-With-Codeine (called T#3). You can still take some ibuprofen but not as much then. This might help you to make a more gradual transition from the Percocet. Tylenol With Codeine is by prescription only (because of the codeine).

On an ongoing basis (more than 10 days), it may be ok to take up to 4. I am concerned about stomach issues and also, we all have some decrease in kidney function as we age, and ibuprofen can affect that too. That's why I'd say take something else or in addition to it right now and you may need less of the ibuprofen.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification. I hope you feel progressively better.

By "up to 4" you mean 4 a day?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Yes, 4 of the 200 mg tablets. It's possible you can use more than that for an extended period of time, but know that it can be irritating to the stomach lining and hard on the kidneys. So if you are needing more than that per day, you likely should be supplementing with something else.
