Suggest An Effective Alternative For Losartan

Question: Dr. Guni;
I'm doing O.K. My last BP was149/80. My most recent question I had asked of you was something to the effect of;
"Is there a different prescription which you would recommend instead of the losartan/hctz 100-25mg which would not cause my ED?".

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and would like to say that in your case ED most likely is associated with HCTZ (hydrochlortiazyde) water pill that you are taking.

I would recommend to take Losartan without HCTz and to take amlodipine instead of it. Losartan and amlodipine hasn't a negative effect on erectile function and may be used in patients with ED.

Thank you. The situation is that my last prescription refill was for 90 days and they are combined into one pill. I will look into that when I get the next refill.
