Question: my throat is sore on right side and i have been having hot flushes but other wise feel fine and im a male and i smoke

Thanks for posting your query.

Presence of soreness with hot sensation is suggestive of inflammatory process and you may have enlarged tonsils.

Yes, smoking increases the chances of malignancy, so beware and you should stop smoking first.

You should consult with physician and ENT surgeon and get thorough check up before making any impression.

You should go for laryngosocpy for exact status of your throat.

Appearance of any growth in throat may cause difficulty in swallowing and pain.

There may be bloody discharge from mouth.

Difference between growth and acute tonsilitis my be done by clinical examination and if necessary then by biopsy.

If it is acute tonsillitis then you should go for complete antibiotic course with anti-inflammatory medicines.

You should do gargles 3 times in a day with avoidane of oily food, cold drinks.

If cancer has been detected in biopsy then you should go for surgical correction.

Then you should go for throat swab with culture & sensitivity.
You may have strep throat infection.
