Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern, and after reviewing the health query, I am of the following opinion:

1. At his age [66 years], it seems to be a case of "hypertensive diabetic Nephropathy", so apart from starting with the medicines, one should check with the following investigation(s):
- Urine for sugar/microalbuminuria [weekly]. [blood urea and serum Creatinine if indicated]
- blood sugar: fasting and postprandial [weekly]
- Lipid profile [medicine is already started]
- EKG [electrokardiogram]: if slightest suspicion of IHD [ischemiac heart disease], do stress test.
- Retinoscopy/ Glycosylated Hemoglobin: once a year.
- Ultrasonography pf abdomen for pancreas.

2. Ayurveda medicine(s) can be safely taken along with any prescribed modern medicine after letting the Physician know. Do let me know if you are willing to start with result oriented and effective Ayurveda Medicines, so that I can send from here taking into account the blood sugar values, Age, and other associated modern drugs to prevent any drug drug interaction.
