Question: Ok... so I had a fever of 103+, severe headache (make you cry kind... only it hurt more to cry)- steam shower helped for a bit, severe nausea- nothing stayed down for more than 5 minutes - from approx. 5am to 10pm, neck pain and stiffness, and lower / middle back pain, hard to stand, sit, or laydown... all hurt. The next day my fever was down to 100+- nausea not so bad... kept rice down. back / neck / head pain still there... but able to move around. Today no fever, back/neck / head pain manageable.... nausea... token amount... again able to eat rice..... should I call my doctor tomorrow to check for bladder/kidney/sinus infection... or write it off as the flu?

Brief Answer:
Most likely to be viral illness (flu)

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Since your symptoms have being going down on its own, the likely diagnosis is vital infection (flu). Infections in urinary tract or other serious infections will have other associated concerning symptoms and will not go down on its own.
So, you don't have to follow up with your provider now.

- Make sure that you stay hydrated
- Stick to BRAT (Banana, rice, Apple Sauce, toast) diet until you start feeling better
- If you cannot keep down aspirin, switch to Tylenol which is much easier on stomach
- Take adequate rest

If your fever goes up, neck pain and headache worsens, notice pain during urination, breathing difficulty follow up with the urgent care.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarification.

Dr. Lekshmi
