default
Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: The other day i was walking and i stepped down a curb and one of my feet landed wrong. I immediately had severe pain in my leg. But it went away after a little bit. Still feeling a little pain as i walked though. Later after i got home my ankle was hurting really bad. It was numb and hurt to walk on. It didn't swell to badly but i am now feeling pain in one area and it hurts really bad. It hurts to put pressure on it for to long. And now its sending numb pain through my leg. Is it a fracture or sprain? Please let me know your thoughts

Brief Answer:
hi and welcome

Detailed Answer:
Considering these symptoms and your age it is more likely to be sprain and pain may persist for up to 10 days.also swelling could occur later. Of course,it can't be for sure without xrays but fractures would manifest with immediate swelling and innability to walk. In every case I suggest to rest, apply cold compresses and put elastic bandages around ankle, keep leg elevated. If pain still persist or progresses you should do xrays to verify is cast required. Wish you good health. Regards
