Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Oral Contraceptives?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Mar 2016
Question: I had my period on 3rd XXXXXXX I always have 7 days bleeding. I normally have a 32-34 day cycle but from two months it has become 28 day cycle as I have taken ipill, once a month, the last two months(9th Nov, 5th December n 3rd XXXXXXX are the last three period dates). I had intercourse on 10th XXXXXXX (8th day of my period). I took an ipill within 12 hours. Today eve (19 the jan) I noticed there is slight bleeding. Maybe 3-4 drops. It is between red/brown. I just had it today eve so not sure if it will continue for 2-3 days or stop with this. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? Also note there was no ejaculation inside.

Brief Answer:
Sex in safe period, i pill taken, least chance of pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dr Purushottam here.
I welcome you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.

As you have mentioned, your last 3 cycles were quite regular. You had sex on day 8 of the period, and you also had taken i pill within 12 hours.
As you may be knowing, that day 10 to 20 of the cycle is the most fertile period in a woman with regular cycles. So you did not have sex in that period. And i pill that you had taken can cause some unusual bleeding. so considering both these things , chances of you getting pregnant are almost nil.

Still if you miss your periods, get your morning's urine tested for pregnancy. Even if you are pregnant, you can opt for termination with tablets safely till 9 weeks.

Please do not panic or do not worry just now.

I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
Dr Purusushottam.
