Is Pregnancy Possible After Unprotected Intercourse While Breastfeeding?

Posted on Thu, 8 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, my wife (37) delivered our daughter three month ago today and is currently breastfeeding. We had sexual intercorse (protected) yesterday morning but at one pointjust before ejaculation I stopped for a minute or two to calm down so I prolong the act. When I resumed, I couldn't ejaculate so decided to do the intercourse without a condom which I did for a minute but then I put a new condom and ejaculated a minute or two later. My question is could i have empregnat my wife? Maybe from Precum? Or maybe because I was close to cum initially and I stopped? Please let me know. We considered getting a morning after pill but it is not available in the UAE. I saw in previous posts that taking XXXXXXX 4 pills then another 4 after 12 hours could have the same effect as the morning after pill, is this correct? Please let me know. Please note my wife is breastfeeding and did not yet get her regular period yet after giving birth. Will those pills have any side effects? Thank you for your reply.

This was sent to Dr. S Patra, OBGYN for his comments. Please get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
No chance of pregnancy. XXXXXXX can be used.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments.

1) According to your given information, it is almost safe sex and there is NO chance of pregnancy as your wife is on regular breast feeding and you did protected sex with condom. Don't be worried.

2) If you have any doubt regarding pregnancy, she can use XXXXXXX as morning after pill. 4 pills are to be taken at the earliest and another 4 pills after 12 hrs. Protection rate is more than 99%.

Hope, it helps for you. Good luck and take care.

Thank you for your response. As mentioned in my message, during the intercourse there was an interminent few minutes in which there was no protection but the ejaculation at the end was using protection. This is where my worry was. I was worried that maybe during these few minutes some sperm was in the urethra and might have got in contact with the precum. Hence the worry of empregnating my wife.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your follow up query.

As she is on breast feeding without her period, there is NO chance of pregnancy with above type of sexual intercourse.

If you have any doubt, you can do home pregnancy test after 4 weeks from last date of sex to be sure. However, chance is extremely low.

Hope, it helps for you. Good luck and take care.
