Is Normal Delivery Possible While Treating Graves' Disease And Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Jan 2016
Question: Hello doctor, I'm pregnant and now 21weeks. I was initially diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2013 and after a period it became hypothyroid and I was on levothyroxine until my 16 weeks of pregnancy and after that they found that my problem s critical as my t3 is hyper and t4 s hypo so they have put me on levothyroxine 75mg and carbimazole 20mg after taking medicine for 4weks now they seems thyroid s working normal and its within the range. I'm on regular check up with my endocrinologist and obstetrician. I would like to know whether they will suggest me for c section or go for normal delivery? Also will my baby Wil be born with thyroid like me?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
No chance of fetal affection if thyroid hormones are well controlled

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Thyroid disorders in pregnancy are not an indication for caesarean section, unless there are any associated medical, obstetrical or fetal complications. So, the mode of delivery will be decided upon all these factors.
If the thyroid hormone were maintained during early pregnancy, then there is no risk of any thyroid disorder in pregnancy.
