Is Normal Deliver Possible At 38 Weeks Of Pregnancy And Cord Around The Fetal Neck?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Hello Doctor My wife is 38 weeks 6 days pregnant and till now no signs of labor pain. As per the latest scan report umbilcal cord at neck of the baby and also having uterine fibroid. As per doctor baby head is not approaching to cervix and recommended to go for C section as the baby head will not reach to cervix and won't get any labor pain even after 40 weeks. Please suggest any alternate method that can work for normal delivery. What are the things to do unwinding the umbilical cord from the neck?

Brief Answer:
Your doctor is wrong

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concerns about not getting into labour.

Still there is time of about more than 10 days. There is no need to panic.

Cord around neck does not prevent baby to go down to cervix or start of labour pains.

You have been given wrong information by your doctor and surgical delivery is unnecessary.

I advice you wait till 40 weeks before deciding on anything. There is no way or need to unwind the cord.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Doctor tried to push the baby down to see head is approaching to cervix or not and told that if we wait another 10 days also there is no scope of natural delivery. Also told that if labour pain start also sometimes the cord will pull back the baby and there will be risk to baby. in order to avoid risk she recommend surgery. is it true?

Hi,

Still there is time. Headache and tiredness are not related to labour.
