Is It Safe To Take Normafibe Clash With Dulcolax?

Question: Hello, Doctor - My name isXXXX and I reside in XXXXXXX. I have cerebral palsy and am now confined to a wheelchair (I can no longer weight-bear through my legs due to the CP/muscular contractions). Because of the CP, I have a "lazy bowel" and my peristalsis is very slow. To keep things moving, I am currently taking 2 Dulcolax tablets every second day (early in the morning) to keep things moving. However, peristalsis seems to be slowing down even further (maybe because I am now laxative-dependent). I had a decent bowel motion this morning (even though I didn't take any laxatives last night. You also need to know I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (and am taking 2 Trajentamet capsules a day - one at breakfast, one at dinner. My question is this:- What would you recommend I should take to enhance peristalsis? I've just been talking to a friend, and she recommended Normafibe (granules) - 2 heaped teaspoons a day with plenty of water. Normafibe is a fibre supplement, to be taken with food. Would Normafibe clash with Dulcolax tablets? And would there be any ill-effects with my diabetes medication? Please advise. I look forward to hearing from you.

Brief Answer:
Hello

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
I realize that you have constipation due to immobility and CP. HAve had a thyroid function test done?

Normafibe contains natural fiber and it doesn't interfere with diabetes medicines, but it is better to take diabetes medicines at least 1 hour before you take Normafibe.

Another tip is to take 2 glasses of warm water in the morning as soon as you get up and massage your lower abdomen in down ward direction. This also can improve the peristalsis in the morning.

regards
Binu
