Brief Answer:
danger with using ginko with xarelto

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care question

I will tell you that you should not use ginko and xarelto together. The combination can cause increased risk of bleeding. Please stop the ginko. The ginko is a blood thinner and taking the two together will increase your risk of bleeding.

Your body will naturally dissolve the clot form your stroke. There is no reason to try to reperfuse the area after a stroke. The area is already be killed off and reintroducing blood will not recover the lost tissue. We do have medication that will dissolve a clot during a stroke or a heart attack but you need to get the medication as soon as possible after a stroke or heart attack. Usually within 1 hour. After that the medication is no longer helpful.

In summary
1. Stop Ginko higher risk of bleeding
2. Continue xarelto
3. No reperfusion possible

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions and concerns

Will vitamin C help reduce re perfusion oxidative damage when the primary treatment did not involve TPA use but does involve Xarelta continuing treatment. No paralysis on any extremities but substantial loss of speech. Stroke occurred4 days ago. Patient released to home care.Ct scans(3) appear to show small area involvement with little change scan to scan.Patient wants to reduce post stroke damage and since time may still equate to further tissue loss, he wants to explore options.( I am his brother).

Brief Answer:
Rehab is only course of action

Detailed Answer:
There is no medication, herbal or vitamins that will reduce the affects of a stroke. The only thing that will help is rehabilitation. The brain can learn new pathways to help recover the speech. There is no easy answers and no medications that will help. The xarelto is used for prevention of future stroke and not for this stroke.

He will need to maintain good blood pressure, control diabetes if he has it, lower his cholesterol and exercise regularly. This will do more than anything else.
