Is It Safe To Expose Skin To The Sun While On Chemotherapy?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: After several attempts by my Dermatologist to destroy the continual red/brown scaly areas all over my hands and arms, he is now treating me with Fluorouracil cream for 14 weeks, 2 times per week. He said the treatment is chemotherapy for my skin and I should not expose these areas to the sun and my immune system will be lowered. How careful should I be, regarding the sun. I am scheduled for a trip to The Carribbean on a Cruise Ship March 1st, one week. Question for you-Should I reschedule my trip for next year when all areas of my body have been treated? What is this service fee? Thank you, XXXX

I took a few pictures, where should I send them?

I have been waiting for 2 hours and no answer as of yet. I added the app you requested. Where is the answer?

Brief Answer:
You should reschedule your trip.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I Understand your concern.

Yes you should completely avoid sun by all means until the chemotherapy is completed and all the lesions have fully healed.

Exposure to sun will worsen the lesions and cause therapeutic failure.

Based on this you should certainly reschedule your trip for the next year.

As far as your pics are concerned, you have an Option of uploading your Reports on the right hand side of the query space, where you can directly upload the scanned images which will appear in your follow up query.

Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.
