Is Fatty Liver With Cyst An Indication Of Cancer?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Jul 2014
Question: Yes. My GI doctor is worried about my fatty liver, which I've had for years (40). I am also anemic and have had gold-colored stool for years. They have found cysts in my liver, so far. I am a 67 year old female. Does it sound to you like I may have cancer? They also found 6 polyps in my stomach and colon, recently.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Anemia is the most worrying fact from all mentioned by you.
Anemia can be caused by bleeding from such polyps. It is very good that you have had colonoscopy and gastroscopy. If no cancer in removed polyps, your digestive tract is rather free from cancer.
Fatty liver is a reversible condition. To reverse it, diet change, painkillers and alcohol avoiding is usually enough. You should also have cholesterol checked and if elevated, statins should be prescribed.
Liver cyst is not the reason to worry. All you need to do with it is to have an ultrasound every year.
I suggest you to consult also gynecologist and make sure nothing wrong is there. If not, you rather have no cancer.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
