Question: My Father's name is XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Mandal. He is has heart right bundle branch block for nearabout 10 years and asthma for 20 years. He is taking Calaptin 40 thrice, Cloptab75, Atorvastatin Caat 40 and seroflo 250 inhaler and asthalin sos. He also has spondylytis at lower back near cocksis.
Recently about 6 mnth ago he suffered accident and got trochanteric fracture near right femur. He undergone Femur fixation by zimmer company STILL plate . On 5th NOV< 2015 he has last check-up by orthopaedic surgeon and told that he can sleep by giving pressure on right side also. But as he started once giving pressyre on Rhs during sleep he started to suffer from pain at spinal cord thoracic region and lower back. Local doc adviced blood test- found RA factor +ve(40) and x-ray showing OK AT fixation but showing thoracic spinal cord two disc degenerative scoliosis.
He was suggested folitrax, sazo 500, folvite. Now after 4 days his pain has got reduced and can walk keeping spinal cord straight.
Now my questions are-
1) Can he walk , do work normally? will the spinal cord return to normal shape?
2) how long the medicine will continue?
3) with ZIMMER STILL PLATE IS THERE ANY RISK IN DOING MRI SCAN

Brief Answer:
These are degenerative changes in the disc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
1. The degenerative changes in the disc are age related changes. The medicines he has been prescribed are to reduce pain. Regular physiotherapy exercises will help in reducing the further progress of the problem. He can do his normal day to day activities.
2. The medicines need to be continued till he starts with regular physiotherapy exercises to keep his spine flexible.
3. MRI scan is not done with an implant inside. Only a CT scan can be done for an accurate diagnosis.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
1. Surgery is the last resort when all the medicines and conservative treatment, physiotherapy and traction fail to provide adequate relief. Right now it is too early to think about a surgery.
2. No. The MRI report is affected by the plate. The reporting and images are not accurate. The magnetism of the plate alters the signals. There is no harm to the plate.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Titanium plate is better.

Titanium plate is better as it is lighter in weight and is stronger as compared to steel plate. There are lesser chances of infection also.
