Question: My granddaughter has c-diff, I am now taking an antibiotic for a foot infection, Can I catch this disease from her?

Clostridium difficile is very contagious

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Clostridium difficile can be transmitted with close contact and by touching the same objects that a carrier-person touched. Taking antibiotics increases the chances for disease because Clostridium difficile is going to find a lot of space in your intestine due to the diminished number of normal flora bacteria caused by the antibiotic.

If your granddaughter has Clostridium difficile diarrhea then touching her or objects that she came into contact with is risky. To prevent transmission common measures (in the hospital) include the use of gloves, gowns and careful hand cleaning after contacting a patient or carrier.

Avoiding contact is advised.
