Is Cataract Surgery Safe After Mini Strokes?
Question: Hi, My mother aged 68, with a history of diabetes and BP was admitted to a local hospital as she was experiencing continuous vomiting, shivering and when we checked BP at home using a digital wrist meter it was on the higher side (200/110).
Doctor suspected a XXXXXXX stroke and has advised Preva, Ecosprin (one per day) and Strocit (twice a day).
My mother actually wanted to have cataract surgery before this incident happened and now since she is normal, can we continue with the surgery?
Attached are CT scan reports and Carotid Test report. Is it safe to continue with the cataract surgery as one of my friend advised she may experience risk of stroke/paralysis if go ahead with the cataract surgery after XXXXXXX stroke. (Whether it was really a XXXXXXX stroke? Can we go ahead with cataract surgery given the CTScan and Carotid reports)

She can safely undergo cataract surgery and there is no risk involved.
Yes, as per the CT scan report, she has suffered mini-strokes, which are related to high blood pressure.
Prior to cataract surgery, both Preva and Ecosprin should be stopped for 4 days, as they are blood thinners and may increase the risk of bleeding during surgery. While we stop the blood thinners, there is a slight risk of getting stroke, however the risk is not high.
BP should be brought under good control prior to surgery.
