Is An X-ray Helpful In Diagnosing Migraine?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: Do I need an X-ray for my headaches? I dont have a cold. I take high blood pressure meds. My recent labs shows my blood pressure ok. The headache is a stabbing feeling in my right ear. I have already taken800 mg of ibuprofen 30 min ago and no relief. This has been going on for a couple of months. It's no specific time of the day, day of week, food, no changes. Feels like my head wants to combust

Brief Answer:
No. You may rather need a CT-Scan!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these headaches that you have reported. NA Xray is not useful in visualizing the brain or the content of the skull from which your headaches originate. You may need a CT-scan for this. However, the headaches have to be recalcitrant to drugs and raise a suspicion for other disease conditions to warrant this. I will suggest that your doctor evaluates and manages you fully for migraine headaches and if this persist, then we can consider getting a scan to see if there is anything of concern inside the skull.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
