Detailed Answer:
Dear sir
As far as lipid profile and heart conditions are concerned, a maximum of 2 drinks on a given day , are not likely to be harmful. Only in cases of already existing heart damage, the consumption may be harmful to heart.

However the damage to liver, nerves and addiction potential are problems which may occur at any amount of consumption. Although these complications are less likely to occur at low amount infrequent consumption.
Since your SGPT is mildly raised I would recommened you to either let it be normalized or keep a watch on this parameter with periodic check as you consume alcohol.
If you really decide to take then-
Never take more than two drinks on a day.
Take as less as feasible.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Thanks Doctor! Does certain medicines have an impact on the SGPT levels & uric acid levels ( mine is slightly high at 8)? I was wondering if my blood pressure tablets affect these levels

Also I am a hard-core non vegetarian. Is it fine to have small portions of meat twice a week?

Brief Answer:
avoid red meat.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
1. A number of drugs can cause increase in uric acid and SGPT. In fact consumption of high protein diet like meat and pulses is one of the major reasons for marginal rise in uric acid. Alcohol is the other reason for rise in uric acid and also increases the propensity to develop clinical gout in those with hyperuricemia.
2. The number of drugs which can cause rise in SGPT is very high. It would have been great if you would have mentioned name of those drugs. Rozavel itself may cause rise in SGPT. It is best to avoid alcohol if it is feasible for you. If you can not do so, take in moderation as advised and take it infrequently and do get your SGOT/SGPT checked periodically.
3. Normally, from cardiac point of view, we advise against consumption of red meat and prefer fish for non-vegetarian consumption. Meat or chicken can be taken occasionally.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Thanks Doctor. I take Olmezest 40 (night) and Seloken 25 (morning) daily. Do these drugs raise uric acid or SGPT levels?

I do not eat red meat. Normally its fish or chicken. Both once a week for now.

Brief Answer:
please see discussion below.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
1. Fish, except for fried fish, can be taken frequently. However chicken should be taken occasionally.
2. Olmesratan can cause increase in uric acid. Liver enzymes were seen to be raised in the trials with this drug but rarely. SGPT level of 67 units do not warrant a withdrawal of this drug.
3. Metoprolol or seloken may also be associated with rise in liver enzymes but rarely do so. Withdrawal of metoprolol is not warranted on this account as yet.
Importantly, we should not combine too many risk factors together; like for liver enzymes alcohol and rozavel are important considerations. Similarly for uric acid, alcohol and meat are important factors. If we combine multiple risk factors then we should be extra careful.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
