Question: I have a 6 month old baby girl. I was giving her a bath tonight and noticed a bruise at the base of her spine, extending slightly into her buttocks. She is not crawling and just started rolloing over. There was definitely not a bruise 2 nights ago when I bathed her, and she wasn't dropped so what could be cause? Ih ave read it's a significant of leukemia.

Brief Answer:
monglian spot

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for posting in health care magic.

Although you're sure that the spot was absent 2 days ago, my first diagnosis will be mongolian spot which looks exactly like a bruise. It very common in babies.

Bruises are very painful and the baby will start crying on pressing the area slightly. Bruise occurs in babies having bleeding or coagulation disorder. If you are sure its bruise ( painful) you should take her to paediatrician and get a complete blood count and INR done.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
no

Detailed Answer:
No . Mongolian spots are present since birth. But at times the colour may become deeper and come to notice at a later age.

If you can send me a picture it may be helpful.

I will try and take a picture of it tonight. I pressed on it this morning and she didn't seem to be in pain at all.
Is it possible that a warm bath would make it more visable? I am taking her to the dr for follow up on another issue and will ask them as well.
Will the dr be able to tell by sight what it is? Should I still ask for a blood test to make sure she is OK.
