Is PSA Level Of 0.3 Ng/ml/gm A Cause For Concern?

Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your Serum P.S.A.levels are persistently higher than normal value of 4 ng/ml.
PSA level is raised in following conditions
1) Benign enlargement of prostate .
2 Cancer of the prostate.
3)Chronic infection of Prostate (Chronic Prostatitis)
However it is international protocol that persistent level of raised PSA is always suspected to be due Cancer of the Prostate unless proved otherwise by doing Ultrasound Guided Multicore Prostate Biopsy .
Please discuss this with your Urologist and get Prostate Biopsy done to rest assured about the diagnosis .This will help you to relieve mental tension.

Does bph increases psa level by 0.3ng/ml/gm.

PSA is expressed by the cancer tissues at 3ng/ml in the blood per gram of cancer, as against 0.3ng/ml/gm of tissue in BPH.
To be more specific in BPH we consider only the Adenoma (Binign tumor) in prostate and not the entire volume and weight of the prostate .
It is a standard protocol accepted and followed by Urologist all over the world to get tissue from the prostate by biopsy to confirm the tissue diagnosis rather than to rely on PSA values which are most variable and unreliable .
PSA is a screening test to decide about need for Prostate Biopsy and does not confirm the diagnosis of cancer of prostate and for deciding the mode of treatment .
