Brief Answer:
You should maintain healthy lifestyle.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

History of Gestational Diabetes puts you at risk for development of Type 2 Diabetes in future.
Other risk factors are-
- Family history of Type 2 Diabetes.
- Overweight and obesity.
- Sedentary life style.

Fasting Blood sugar of 109 (if done with 8 to 10 hours of overnight fast and by using venous blood sample in laboratory) denotes Pre-diabetes (Impaired Fasting Glucose).
It is advisable to do OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) and HbA1c to confirm the result and to know post glucose load blood sugar level.

Instead of worrying you should work on your Lifestyle.
- Have calories and fat restricted diet. For which it is better to consult dietitian who can plan diet for you considering your BMI (Body Mass Index) and food habits.
- Regular exercise at least 150 min per week of moderate degree of physical exercise.
- Keep your weight under control: Try to maintain healthy BMI of less than 23 if possible otherwise maintain it according to your current BMI.
- Do OGTT and HbA1c and if they are normal do OGTT once in every 6 months or yearly.

Hope this helps you.
I will be happy to answer your follow up queries if any.

Hi,

It was tested using blood sample using the glucometer. Do i have to consult a doctor immediately? or can i work on getting fitter for few months and see if I readings are still the same?

Brief Answer:
Do OGTT & HbA1c.

Detailed Answer:
Blood sugar level done by glucometer uses capillary blood sample and glucometer reading are not always reliable.

I may advise -
- Do OGTT & HbA1c.
- If it is normal repeat OGTT once in every 6 months rather than frequent glucometer reading.
- Continue life style modification as suggested earlier.

Hope this may help in clarifying your doubts.
