default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: I'm taking clindamycin for a gum infection (300 mg four times a day)
Starting to feel like I'm getting a UTI - can clindamycin help with UTIs as well?

May be I'm just getting a yeast infection?

Brief Answer:
No clindamycin is not suitable.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query at Hcm
I understand your concern and situation.

No clindamycin will not be useful as most of the time the urinary tract infection is due to XXXXXXX negative bacteria like Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, etc which require antibiotics like cephalosporin, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, etc. Drink plenty of fluids and take an alkaniser. Get your urine microscopy and culture sensitivity test for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria done. Take the antibiotics accordingly. Throat infection are usually due to XXXXXXX positive bacteria like Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, etc for which clindamycin is effective. Visit your physician get examination done as you require antibiotics which need prescription. Fungal infections are usually not commonly in community acquired urinary tract infections.

I hope I answered your query.
