Question: Hi, I have very irregular periods along with persistent hormonal acne and pretty frequent mood swings. I'm not sexually active but do you think that getting on birth control would be beneficial? I am concerned about the negative side effects of birth control but I'm not sure what else to try because it seems like it is a hormone problem.

Hormonal imbalance can be possible in your case.
But I suggest you investigate further with pelvic ultrasonography, serum TSH estimation, serum prolactin estimation, serum FSH and LH estimation, serum DHEA estimation.

These above-mentioned investigations will help in excluding thyroid problem, Hormonal imbalance, endometriosis and ovarian cause. Combined Hormonal contraceptive pill beneficial to regularize period. I suggest you consult a Gynecologist for per speculum examination and ultrasonography.

Additionally, I'd suggest you do regular yoga or meditation, maintain a healthy lifestyle and practice 6-8 hour sleep. All these measures help in such irregular period cases.
