I Had A COVID-19 Antibody Test Done At A Lab
Question:
I had a COVID-19 antibody test done at a lab in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX My result was "negative" although I do have levels of IgG and IgM COVID-19 antibodies in my blood; albeit not reaching the required 1.0 level for this particular test. I believe I had very mild symptoms beginning March 25 and ending April 1st. Fever, chills, headache, loss of smell and taste. What does it mean that I have low levels of these antibodies? Was I exposed or not?
My IgG level was .676 and my IgM level was .376

Brief Answer:
You might be very less exposure.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the reports you have attached.
Your swab test is negative and your antibodies are also less.
So you might be having very less/subclinical infection. You might be exposed to Corona Virus but in very less quantity.
Only symptomatic treatment is required.
No need to worry for this report.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hello -
I did not have a swab test.
This was a blood test.
I respect that English is not your first language; however, could I please have this question forwarded to an immunologist who speaks and reads English as his/her first language? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
If symptomatic then you should definitely go for swab test.

Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
Extremely sorry for mistake.
Actually I am working as Corona front liner in my hospital. So it is in my mind now.
Sorry again.
According to my clinical experience, if you are symptomatic (fever, sore throat, cough, weakness, bodyache) then you should definitely get done swab test (RNA PCR Test). PCR is diagnostic for Corona infection.
But if you are asymptomatic then no need for PCR test and do home quarantine for total 14 days.
