Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

I can understand your concern.

I appreciate your decision to quit alcohol. This will surely help you for future healthy life.

Seizure/ convulsion can occur during alcohol withdrawal. If you have experienced the same better to stop alcohol under medical supervision preferably in hopsital.

Benzodiazepine group of drug specifically lorazepam or chlordiazepoxide is used to treat/prevent alcohol withdrawal. Other option is diazepam if your liver function tests are normal.
I would like to use lorazepam injection initially to prevent seizure if I were your treating doctor. Then I would shift to oral aftet 3-4 days. Simultaneously multivitamins including thiamine and other routine antacids are used when you are taking indoor treatment.
Lorazepam should be gradually taper off latet on.

Note: If you have history of seizure without alcohol also, EEG should be done and if needed antiepileptic medicine should be used.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
