How Much Oxcarbazepine Can Be Taken For Treatment Of Trigeminal Neuralgia?

Question: I take trileptol for TRN, was taking 1 1/2 tablets per day, now now not working when I eat, can I increase to 2 1/2 tablets per day?

Hi,

Though the dose can go up to 1000mg per day. Doses over 600mg are used as antiepileptic medication and the serum drug levels would increase drastically. So it is wiser to measure the blood drug levels and then consider to increase the dose to 2 1/2 per day. Alternatively I do consider adding one more drug like gabapentin to reduce the painful episodes.

So next thing would be knock the door of the doctor and ask to measure the drug levels and then consider increasing the dose.
