Brief Answer:
Was the scratch superficial or deep?

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query.

Very sorry to hear what has happened . First of all don't worry about transmission from the person with whom you were talking.

As of the dog scratched is concerned kindly let me know whether there was any blood oozing out or it was a superficial scratch.

Kindly let me know that for further discussion.

Will be looking forward for your reply.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
NO need for Vaccination.

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXXXXX

Thanks for reverting back .

You are panicking , first relax . None of these ( transmission from another person bitten by dog or self transmission from contamination of nasal mucosa-- will result in Rabies )

Any significant exposure to Rabies virus requires re vaccination but only with 2 dose . But in your case there is no significant exposure either from Dog or from that person or from yourself.

So there is no need to go for a repeat vaccination. Just relax . Nothing will happen.

Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.

As i told you that On 30 XXXXXXX 2015 i visit a stranger home, i put my polythene bag there, after my work end i saw that a dog is put his mouth on my polythene bag. i taken that polythene bag and go to catch the vehicle for going home. that dog must be put his saliva over my polythene bag. after i reach to my room i wash my hand, during washing my hand may be some drops goes to my mouth and then to my stomach and also may be during journey i put my hand in my mouth unknowingly. i am very fearing whether rabies is transmitted to me or not.
if the dog has rabies then his saliva that stick to polythene bag and then to my hand in contact. it will transmit me rabies or not? may be some cut marks present in my hand through which saliva of
dog can enter to my body. Will it able to transmit rabies to me or not? in this case will i need 2 dose of vaccine?
I forget to tell you 1 thing that i have taken total 4 doses of antirabies vaccine on XXXXXXX 2014 due to scratch by dog, and in fourth dose half dose given to me left hand muscle and rest half dose given
to me right hand muscle. Is it right way? again on october 2014 due to small scratch by dog doctor advised me to take 3 doses of antirabies vaccine, so i taken. in december 2014 to 7 january 2015 i recieved 5
doses of antirabies vaccine due to again scratch by dog. i want to ask you i am ok or not or any side effect can take place?

Brief Answer:
NO need for further vaccination.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Regarding the need for repeat vaccine I have said earlier and I will say it again that the exposure you had is not significant and hence there is no need for repeat vaccination.

As of the rabies vaccine being given at left hand and right hand is not practised usually but there is nothing wrong in that method but unnecessary two separate pricks .

Any repeat exposure after a complete vaccination requires only 2 additional doses. You have been given full 5 dose course unnecessarily in january. Though these vaccines are very safe there is always a possibility of reactions . But its been 1 month and nothing has happened to you means everything is fine .

Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.

i want to ask you that is there a booster dose that if i take and i will be free for certain period of time, i heard about 90 day booster dose but from which day it counts from last dose of vaccination or first day
of vaccination that i have taken 1 month ago. and upto what time of period it valid that i have to not take vaccine further if any minor scratch happens by dog in future that i protected.

i want to ask you also 1 thing that i use blanket that i using from vaccination period, and when i eat meal on bed my blanket sometimes touches my food. is there any
contamination of rabies by touching cloths(warm cloths that not need wash) that i not washed from vaccination to till now. Is there any worry about this?
please reply sir. Thanks in advance.

Answered by Dr. Divakara (11 hours later)
Brief Answer:
No chance of transmission from blanket.

Detailed Answer:
HI

First of all as of transmission that can occur through your blanket is concerned , no it cannot happen like that. So relax.

Coming to booster dose , booster dose is given for people who by profession have high risk of exposure and its given once a year.

If you are apprehensive you can do one thing. Get tested for Protective antibodies levels for rabies and if they are in normal range then no need for any booster dose for next 30 days but any dog bite after that 30 day period an addition 2 dose vaccine has to be taken .

Hope this information was useful to you .
