How Long Does A Circumcision Wound Take To Heal?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Sep 2017
Question: Hi doctor, I am a 32 year old male and was circumcised last Tuesday the 8th of August due to having a tight foreskin. Whilst uncomfortable still due to the stitches (dissolving stitches) it appears to be healing well but I am slightly concerned about the underneath part still bleeding a bit and not healing like the rest. I have attached a picture, would you please take a look and advise if it looks OK and if I should do anything to help it. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried about it

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts and photographs that you have uploaded your circumcision wound is normal .

Usually there is a slight oozing of few drops of blood from the wound due to friction with cloths which stops over a period of a week .

Ensure to clean the wound with warm water and Betadine solution and apply antibiotic ointment like Neosporin or Soframycin twice daily .

If possible put sterile gauze cloth available in pharmacy over the suture line .This will protect the wound from getting contaminated with inner wares and prevent from getting infected .

Take antibiotic like Ciprofloxacin and anti inflammatory medication like Diclofenac twice daily .This will help to promote healing .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

thanks for your answer doctor, my surgeon didn't tell me much after surgery care at all, just to remove the bandage the next day (9th August) and wear tighter fitting underwear with a sterile non stick pad between underwear and skin.
I have bathed it a couple of times with saltwater solution the last two days after asking others for advice. So you believe I should do the things you mentioned and purchase betadine, antibiotic ointment, sterile gauze and an antibiotic?
