Brief Answer:
The healing time depends on the cause of the mouth ulcers.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

The time frame differs according to the cause.
When and how did you get these ulcers?
Are they only on the cheeks or cheeks plus gums or only gums?
Can you try uploading a picture of the lesions to see what they are actually and get you proper care for their better and early recovery.

Benign ulcers usually get healed properly in a weeks or so. But the malignant eruptions may be difficult to heal up fast.

How we get they are benign or malignant?
The definite way is the tissue biopsy and history of the patient. Do you have any history of taking some offensive materials that may have irritated the mucosal wall of the mouth cavity and the gums?? Also add please, do you smoke??
Did you have a recent fever??

Hope I answered all of your health concerns . If you have further questions, feel free to contact me anytime. Always write my name in start of your question in future, and I will get back to you in no time. Brief Answer:
It seems to be due to the change of toothppaste and mouthwash!!

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you back with a follow up!

Thanks for providing the details. You seem to have got the inflammation of the gums due to the local irritation of the mucosal lining. It is not a systemic disease and your discoloration and the lesions will go away in a week or so.

You need to use Sensodyne toothpaste (Apply a pea-sized amount on toothbrush for once).

Use only SOFT FIBER toothbrush. Don't apply much pressure.

Avoid spices and fried fast and junk foods.

Take vegetables and fruits, salads and a plenty of water.

Take Citrucel dietary fiber supplement with plenty of water.

Take a multivitamin daily.

Stop using the Listerine mouthwash. A huge population is allergic to it, so are you. You may try Scope or Clinica instead if not allergic to.

Avoid Alcohol, beverages, caffeinated drinks and chocolates etc.

Keep a good physical activity. Cycling is good for you to get healthy fast.

Apply Somogel (OR Oragel) on the gums and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse with tap water.

Apply Tannic Acid Glycerine on the gums press gently and leave for 2-3 minutes. Then rinse. You may need a prescription for the same.

Take Cetrizine for itching and Ibuprofen for absurd feelings and pain. They also will relieve the inflammation and will help you get faster recovery.

I used the mouthwash and toothpaste over 2 weeks ago..stopped using them a few days after..can you tell me as to why I would continue to get more sores in my mouth?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Muhammad Hanif (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
It is the inflammatory response of the body to the irritants!!!

Detailed Answer:
I warmly Welcome you back with a follow up and happy to assist you as always.

When a chemical irritant comes in touch with the mucosal lining of the body, it causes two types of reactions.

** Firstly it is the mild irritative response and may be redness of the mucosa or if more severe there may be some denudation of the mucosal lining from some parts. This all goes fast and may take minutes-hours-a day to erupt but it never goes full blown until late. This depends on the time spent by the irritant to be in contact with the mucosal lining. If the contact was for least time, and the frequency was also less, then there isn't a big issue.

** Secondly; it is the heavier irritative response and comprises of late eruptions of the ulcers, discoloration, redness, inflammation of the tissue, swelling and pain. This is the case when frequency and time spent by the irritant in contact with the mucosa is higher than the milder case. You are suffering from this second type and that is why you were continuing to get more and more sores in mouth.

But don't worry it will take some days to heal up and will go away. It is curable. Follow the aforementioned instructions.
