Posted on Mon, 8 Aug 2016
Question: Good evening Doctor. I'm prescribed 60mg of Adderall XR by my psychiatrist in XXXXXXX for daily use. I have a drug test later this week for a new job and am wondering how long it takes the medication to leave your body and if it even matters if I test positive given that I'm under the care of a physician?

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

It takes Adderall roughly 7 days to leave the system completely. Urine tests often detect stimulants up to 7 days after use. However, if you are prescribed this medication by a physician, this should not be a problem. Simply ask your prescribing doctor to write a letter to your potential employer explaining that you are taking the medication as directed for medical purposes. Typically this will satisfy any employer and everything should be okay.
