default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: My wife is having a biopsy on Dec 12th and they are telling me it will be under full sedation and will last two hours. Why so long and this is a lung biopsy for swollen lymph nodes. Please advise as what to expect and what they are doing that takes so long?
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Time taken may vary with patient.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Most likely it is CT scan guided biopsy.
CT scan help in localisation of lesion.
Sedation,CT scan and biopsy generally take 45-60 mins.
Patients who are unable to lie still may require general anesthesia. In these patients whole procedure may take longer time,so don't worry at all.Time taken may vary with patient.

Get well soon.

Hope I have answered your query.
