How Can Substantial Weight Gain After A Seizure Attack Be Managed?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Aug 2017
Question: I have gained a substantial amount of weight (50 lbs), since I developed seizures 7 years ago. The seizures were the result of a TBI. I walk 4-5 days per week for 45-60 minutes with my seizure alert dog, I am cautious with my diet. But, I cannot get this weight off! It's insane! I have always been 120 lbs. Can you suggest anything?

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for sending the query.

A couple of thoughts given the history you have provided - You might consider adding some weight training to your exercise routine a few days per week. The weight training can increase the metabolic activity of your muscles which will burn more calories even at rest.

Also you might talk to your doctor about possibly having some lab work done to check your thyroid function. A sluggish thyroid can make it very difficult to lose weight.

Adding some additional aerobic exercise such as stationary bike riding may also help you burn more calories.

I agree meditation and support groups may be helpful. WeIGHT watchers and XXXXXXX XXXXXXX are a couple of examples of services which have been successful in helping to promote weight management.

Rhanks again for sending the query.

Sincerwly,
