default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jun 2017
Question: I had a broken ankle in January. Seems healed. Woke with what appears to be a severe muscle cramp in my right calf on the same leg as the break. I have had muscle iss he with this calf before but not this bad. I cannot walk properly and am hurting my hips and my left knee. Dr had an ultra sound done to eliminate blood clot. All clear . Don't know who to go to to have issue checked. What should I do? Issue began one week ago.

Brief Answer:
NSAIDs, muscle relaxants, physiotherapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Both arterial and venous Doppler should have been done. If both were normal then a clot is unlikely.

NSAIDs like meloxicam can be advised if renal function is normal. Muscle relaxants like tizanidine along with physiotherapy would also be required. If NSAIDs cant be used then tramadol with paracetamol would be the alternative.

At home , you can take acetaminophen for now, but the ankle, calf, knee and back needs to be examined by your GP and the medications can be prescribed , accordingly.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
