How Can Seasonal Hair Loss Be Prevented?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Aug 2017
Question: Hi! I experience really bad seasonal hair loss every year from late july through the end of October. This has happened to me every year for 17 years. I am 41. This year I started two months early and the hair loss is just increasing now. Would you suggest taking taurine and cysteine? If yes, how much? I have had my thyroid checked quite a few times....I have normal levels. This is just scary to me...because starting early has already thinned my hair. It does not come out in clumps but all over. I shed bad every year and the only information that a dermatologist has given me is that my hair follicles are probably all on the same life span schedule. I am a teacher so my stress levels change a lot when I am done with school....but I am about to go back. This has happened as long as I have been a teacher!!!

Is there anything else you would recommend doing during this period every year???

Right now I am a really healthy person. I am on no medications except for 5mgs of Abilify and that does not seem to effect this pattern....It just continues.

Brief Answer:
It can be seborrheic dermatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely seborrheic dermatitis. This can get exacerbated seasonally.
I would suggest using shampoos based on salicylic acid and ketoconazole. This can be used twice weekly. Corticosteroids like clobetasol also can be used topically if this is not effective. Using castor oil topically is also recommended.
For supplements I would suggest hair grow vitamins like biotin. No need to use others.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
