How Can A Trabeculated Bladder Causing Permanent Discomfort Be Treated?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Feb 2017
Question: My daughter who is 22, has had repeated UTIs for over 2 years now. She has had all the usual STI tests, which proved NAD. She had a 14cm ovarian cyst removed 1 year ago, along with the ovary. This was thought to be pressing on the bladder, but this made to difference to her symptoms. She has had a cystoscopy which showed a "trabeculated bladder"

This is severely effecting her life. She has to drink water constantly, she has permanent discomfort in her bladder, her sex life is effected, she cannot drink tea, coffee or fizzy/alcoholic drinks. She is now due to have urodynamic tests in February, and he will look at her diary, but her consultant,(we have private medical insurance) is giving her basic advice, which she has been following for years and basically saying that she may have to live with it. Can you suggest anything?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Neurogenic Bladder .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Your 22 years old daughter is getting repeated episodes of UTI and her Cystoscopic examination has revealed er bladder to be trabaculated.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Does she have frequency for urination ?
2) Can she empty her bladder completely during urination ?
3) Does she have to strain to pass out urine ?

The cause of she getting repeated episodes of UTI is due to significant residual urine remaining in bladder due to incomplete emptying of bladder ,

The finding of trabaculated bladder on cystoscopic examination may be due to Neurogenic bladder which can be confirmed only on Urodynamic study of bladder which you have scheduled in Feb .Please go ahead and get it done .

In the mean while you can give her cholenergic drug like Bethanechol twice daily along with appropriate antibiotic as per urine culture report .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
