Question: Hi. I can feel a small movable lump when i push inside my external lips (labia majora) It is kidney bean sized and shaped and has the consistency of a lymph node. i am 19 years old and sexually active. It is felt closer to my groun area than to the opening of my vaginal lips. It is not visable from the outside and is not causing me any pain bleeding discomfort od abnormal discharge. it is no bigger than 1cm in diameter and feels to be connected to a vein or legament/tendon of some kind. I am a person who suffers from healthy anxiety and worry that this is some kind of cancer like vulvar sarcomas etc. Can you give me some more information on what you think this could be please. It feels like a normal body sensation but is not symmetrical with the other outer vaginal lip.

Brief Answer:
benign lesion as bartholin or sebaceous cyst. not cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my surgical experience, the small lump with consistency of lymph node
involving skin below labia majora is usually soft tissue swelling as Bartholin, sebaceous
cyst or else.

My recommendations at present

- Do not panic at all, as this is absolutely not a sign or symptom of cancer in any
manner.
- Book an appointment with your OBGY for primary check up of the swelling.
- Keep a check over the size of swelling till you consult the doctor.

Do feel free to discuss further regarding the issue.
Wish you best recovery.

Regards.

Okay. Thank you for the reassurance. So you are saying that cysts can develop underneath the top layer of skin and have no visibility by the naked eye? I've seen many photos of cysts being elevated from above the skin but mine is not. The lump I feel cannot be seen externally and is only felt on palpitation. I have been researching all day because I'm so worried and saw types of vulvar cancer. I am extremely worried about sarcomas as I've heard they can be misdiagnosed as a cyst. What would be my symptoms of those? As I've been told they grow very fast in almost a weeks time and are also visible with the eye, no need for palpitations, and not moveable. I've had this lump present for 2 weeks now possibly longer with no growth.

Brief Answer:
follow up .You definitely have benign soft tissue lump only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the follow up.

* Surely, cyst can present in many of the instances without visible over the surface when
it is of tiny size. It is certain size only when you get it over the skin.

* So far as sarcomas are concerned, they are very rapidly progressing tumors with
distorted tissue architecture , which is not definitely your case.

Thanks.
