Posted on Mon, 9 Oct 2017
Question: I had a encounter with a high risk individual a month back ,developed a white tongue four weeks from exposure this has been the same for two weeks and dry cough for more than a week and now phlegm , is this oral thrush or just a Regular case of throat infection ? Particularly worried about the spots in the back of the tongue , what are these spots , does it signal a bigger infection symptom such as acute hiv ? the white part doesn't scrape or come off showing that it is on the tongue and not over it.i have no trouble while swallowing or drinking

Brief Answer:
Please don't worry! This is not related to HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for writing back.

I have seen the picture of your tongue and I think that this is normal to a little bit whiter tongue, but not related to HIV.

This situation could be as a result of the recent throat infection. Gargling with XXXXXXX warm saline water thrice daily, for the time being, will be beneficial.

You should know that usually a thin and white coating of the tongue is considered normal and healthy.

These red spots (tiny bumps) in the root of your tongue are called papillae that are responsible for the taste.

I hope my answer helps you.
Regards.
