Does Radiation From CT Scan Cause Complications In Getting Pregnant?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Hello, I had a chest CT scan with IV contrasttoday for a bump on my collarbone. My husband and I are trying to conceive and have been unsuccessful thus far. I am due to ovulate in 10 days so I am early in this cycle. They used a lead cover for my uterus and ovaries but I am still a little concerned. Should we postpone trying to concieve this month or will the risk of potential radiation related defects have gone by then?

Brief Answer:
Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. The radiation leading to birth defect is to be thought when you have ovulated.

2. Fortunately you have not ovulated yet and hence you can try for pregnancy this cycle itself without worrying about radiation effects on baby.

I hope your doubt is cleared.

Wish you speedy recovery
