Question: Hi. My wife gave birth to our first child on 27th of July (11 weeks now). She has been breastfeeding. However since yesterday she has been bleeding, like periods. She started spotting two days ago and has been bleeding since yesterday. The blood is slightly thick red.

Does beginning of menses affect lactation? Because we plan to breastfeed at least for 6 months or more.

Brief Answer:
No it will not affect lactation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You are most welcome.
No lactation is not affected by menses but she should take a healthy and nutritious diet rich in milk and milk products.
You should use precautions to prevent pregnancy because period means she starts ovulating also.
Hopefully found useful.
Good luck.
