Does Intake Of Thyronorm Help In Treating Hypothyroidism?

Question: I am 45 yrs old lady. I am having hypothyroid. I am taking Thyronorm 100 mg for the past 5 years. Now my thyroid level is T3-94 ng/dl, T4-12.9 ug/dl, TSH-0.03 uIU/ml. Please suggest me whether Thyronorm 100 mg is correct medicine or should I reduce the mg.

Hello Madam,

Thanks for the question.

The dose of the thyroid is frequently adjusted according to the body needs. The body demand increases during pregnancy, stress, diabetes and other medical conditions. If there is no medical condition and it is in physiological equilibrium it depends on the weight. To calculate the dose we order Serum TSH values every 3 to 6 months.
Having said that your T4 Values is above normal and it is because of higher dose of Thyronorm and the TSH is also below the normal range.
If you are my patient I would slightly reduce the dose to 75 micrograms and reorder TSH after 15 days.

Please go back to your treating physician to adjust the doses and follow up with him.
