Does High Room Temperature Cause Sudden Infant Death Syndrome?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: I have 3 month old twins....I was HALO sleep sacs on both of them last night....I kept them on today with a light tshirt and diaper on each....temp in room was 71-72....my husband got home and touched them and said I was baking them in the sacs and we should take them out so we did. Only clue they were warm is towards the end of the day their sleep apnea leads weren't sticking well.

I am concerned because I have heard that overheating causes SIDS....does the risk go away once the baby isn't too warm anymore or is there a risk for something bad to happen weeks or months from now because they were too warm today. They were in the sacs all day. Please help

Brief Answer:
Nothing will happen weeks from now

Detailed Answer:
Hi...please don't worry. Nothing will happen weeksor months from now.
Overheating might cause SIDS, but it will be an immediate effect.
If the babies have come out of overheating and are their normal self and feeding well and urinating well, there us nothing to worry.
Once the babies have become normal in their activities nothing is going to happen. Please do not worry.
A small suggestion is that - Never dress your babies too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
