Does Chlamydia Infection Cure Itself Over Time?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: Hi! I am a 19 year old female, and in October of 2015 I contracted chlamydia, I was even tested and it came back positive. Due to me moving, I never recieved the letter telling me of the contraction until months and months later. It is now April of 2016 and I just got re-tested, but I believe it has come back negative as I havent heard back from the clinic in about a month. Is this possible? Could my body have somehow cured itself?

Brief Answer:
I don't think that is likely ma'am, could be a false-negative result

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Unfortunately, chlamydia is not one of those infections that the body's self defence can take care of.

This was most probably a false-negative, or probably a negative provided due to an inappropriate or inaccurate urine sample provided (happens when the urine is too dilute, like when you urinate just an hour or so after drinking water, etc).

So in a while, go for another test and make sure all the right steps are followed. Once that result returns, we can accordingly assume what could've and couldn't have happened.

I hope you find my response helpful ma'am. I would also like to add that leaving chlamydia untreated can have some serious consequences in women (E.g. infertility), so please do seek treatment, it is inexpensive and a short course, so why not?

Best wishes.
