Does Utovlan Affect The Menstruation Cycle?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi

I've been prescribed Utovlan and was told to take 3 pills a day. But for the past 3 days I've been taking 1 pill or 2 a day.

Does this make the pill ineffective? WIll this affect the duration in which my period is supposed to come? The reason why I took so little is because I think i might be pregnant, but I dont want to take the risk of having a period as I'm now on holidays with my boyfriend.

And it might be too early to tell by Home pregnancy test if I'm positive as the last time we had sex was on 12th January.

I have been having several symptoms such as sore nipples not breasts, itchy and dry skin, nausea, fatigue with dizziness, lower abdominal pain that comes and goes for a few minutes.

I hope to receive your best advice.

Brief Answer:
Its very important to get TVS

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your query and concern.

Yes improper dosage of Utovlan will certainly affect its efficacy since its a hormonal agent.

Its pretty important to rule out pregnancy in your case,as the symptoms in your case largely point to a conception.

Hence its very important to get a Transvaginal Ultrasound/TVS scan to rule any intrauterine signs of early pregnancy.

Also a radioimmunoassay of urine for HCG will help to document any signs at the earliest, than the conventional home based pregtest.

Thank you.

Thank you doctor for your reply.

I have been struggling to find a GP or hospital to do these tests. I am based in Kingston Upon Thames, United Kingdom.

As I know home based tests can be unreliable if taken too early, hence my query here. Also, I would like to know if there is a slight difference between PMS cramps and implantation cramps? I have been having lower abdominal cramps that comes and goes for about a week now. I'm sure it's not my PMS cramps as normally they come a week before my period and only last for a day or two at most.

Thank you

Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

Both PMS cramps and Implantation cramps can present one and same. Its difficult to detect them clinically although PMS cramps are more pronounced and prolonged.

A transvaginal scan can conveniently detect these differences.

You can avail these services at Kingston Natural health center,31 old London Road,Kingston,Surrey KT2 6ND.
