Brief Answer:
Statin drugs for cholesterol

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been diagnosed with high cholesterol and you are wondering if simvastatin would be a good choice to lower your cholesterol. Simvastatin is in a class of drugs called statins. They all work by stopping the liver from making cholesterol at night while you are sleeping. The statins all lower cholesterol and some are very powerful. The simvastatin is a moderate reducer in lower cholesterol and is moderately priced. It is probably the most common and popular cholesterol lower drug on the market. I use this medication on the majority of my patients with elevated cholesterol.

Side effects are usually related to muscle pain or liver abnormalities. If you experience severe leg pain or your skin turns yellow then you need to stop the medication immediately and notify your doctor.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions.
