Does Methimez Cause Insomnia?

Question: Hi ! is insomnia a side effect of thyroid medicine Methimez? If yes, then what steps can I take to counter it?

Dear Friend.
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Insomnia is mostly due to Hyperthyroidism or Grave's Disease for whichever you are taking Methimazole.
Methimazole itself can also cause insomnia but this goes with time.
Insomnia due to hyperthyroidism gets over once the disease activity is under control.
However, if insomnia is troubling you very much you can ask your doctor to add Alprazolam or Clonazepam to your prescription for a few weeks.
