Does IBS Cause Heart Palpitations?
Question: I have feeling that when I have IBS, I have heart palpitations(pounding but not racing). what is the link to that?
I took a propanalol in the morning, after that i had 1 bowel movement. Then I had loose stool. I had constipation a day before (Symptom of IBS).

There is a reflector mechanism when tachycardia is caused after bowel movement, can be after urination as well.
There are some nerves in bowel, they are sensitive in some patients, so bowel movement can irritate these nerves and cause reflector tachycardia.
You can discuss with your physician to change propranolol to another beta blocker, which will act more slowly, so the effect on bowel will be minimal and will protect you from palpitations ass well.

Hello doctor. I am 27, so not a sir.
I dont have tachycardia. I just have pounding heartbeat (heartbeat moving my fingers and tummy). I also have mild MVP. I have the awareness of heartbeat most of time when i am lying down.
Any comments on that and suggested medication?

Beta blockers are usually effective in any case. So, you can discuss with your doctor the possibility of longer lasting beta blocker prescription, such as metoprolol, bisoprolol.
Mild mitral valve prolapse usually doesn't cause any symptoms.
There is another examination, Holter monitoring, when 24 hour ECG is registered, in your case this examination may be quite informative, your doctor will see, what is going on when you have complaints.
