Brief Answer:
Yes she can take cephalexin...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking Healthcaremagic.

I have gone through your query and my answer is as follows:
Cefuroxime and cephalexine are antibiotics of the same family (cephalosporin generation) so they have a lot of common. What is more important is that your mother has already taken the minimum dosage allowed for an antibiotic to be used. In this case cefuroxime 250 mg for 3 days.

In my experience, this is not the recommanded dose for an absces. I prefere 500mg twice per day for 5-7 days.

Your mother can take cephalexine 500 mg twice per day for 5 days. If you need a prescription for this antibiotic than please consult her doctor for the recipe.

Continue cleaning the area localy.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Wish all the best.

Brief Answer:
Continue with medication...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back.

From the pictures I can see that her absces has drained.
This is the first step to recovery. Now we need to give it the proper time to fully heal, but remember to keep a closer eye at the dark/brown skin around the absces.

If the skin turns green, than that it is not a good sign and it might need to be cut (the skin)

Even if that happens,it will be just a small cut and your mother will not even feel it.

Keep cleaning the wound and for every question that you might have, don't hesitate to contact me.
