Do Stress And Inflammation Cause Air Trapping?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: So I need to know if this stress and inflammation of the airways can cause air trapping. I know my pft shows that it is in normal range. But that is during forced exhaling. I feel as I have some trapping that is obstructing and inhale of air.

Not much of a rest full weekend when you are worrying on that

The resting part of the weekend was limited. The wife's son had a serious asthma exacerbation that put him in hospital then I became overly stressed because I walked into a huge mess at my house. Dr visit went well though.

Brief Answer:
Your worsening of symptoms are due to stress only.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
See, your symptoms are directly related to the level of stress.
This time stressor is your wife's son's asthma hospitalization.
Your physical examination and other tests are normal.
So there is no organic pathology.
It is only stress in your case.
Please let me know
1. Did you have spirometry during this physical?

No spirometery was done. They just checked vitals and had a conversation over the PFT and that's about it.
Every dr says pretty much the same thing. That any symptoms I have should be no different than those I would have around test 1,2,3 etc.

I must really need rest and relaxation and mind therapy. This morning, I drove off forgetting my phone. I turned around and went back. By the time I got to the house I was worried because I would be out of breath as I went in to get the phone. Yes I was. I took a Xanax and a puff on inhaler to relax.

I left my home yesterday and was tense coming back, I woke up in the night and was tense with thoughts of work and sleep. I did feel good when I got here last night. I had a message that I read from one who made me happy.

Getting old stinks

I do not know what to call it but I go to bed at night feeling pretty darn good, I fall asleep happy that i feel good, but when i get up in the morning, I am not sure if its the mental thinking during the night that raises my anxiety levels but i wake to find that my breathing is not a smooth as it had been when i went to sleep. Maybe I should move my second lexapro to bedtime so it holds through the night and to reset my focus to not expect to feel so good upon waking so that i do not get depressed when it isnt. I will assume that the breathing issue upon waking is the inflammation that is coming back before I get the flovent taken and my lexapro in the system.

I do have a question, does the body ever get adjusted to the corticosteroid so that you can take it in the evening and not stay awake all night because of it. I have not taken it when its close to bedtime because i do not wish to lay awake all night.

I take it at 5:30 Am and again around 4pm. No one told me not to take at bedtime, I did once and it kept me awake all night long so I backed it down to a time that would not keep me awake
doctor
Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (18 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
This is not a side effect of flovent.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, this is not due to flovent. It is not side effect of fluticasone.
In my opinion, you should take it 1 hour before going to bed.
Morning dose should be taken 12 hours after the night dose.
Please let me know
1. Were you taking Xanax when you had that awake episode by flovent?

No xanax at that time, I take a xanax and give me 15 minutes and I am out like a light.

So the small amount of steroid is not gonna make me alert and awake. I should also add that it happened when i took qvar at bedtime. since both are cortico steroids, I assumed both would be the same.

Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
No, this is not true.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, this is not true. Inhaled corticosteroids will not cause awakening.
No need to worry for taking flovent.
Better to take flovent 1 hour before going to bed and Xanax 10-15 minutes prior to sleep.
Morning dose of flovent should be 12 hours after the night dose.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
