Do L-Tyrosine, B Complex And Vitamin A Supplements Help In Reversing Grey Hairs?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Jun 2015
Question: I've started taking L-Tryosine when I wake up.
I also take a bunch of other supplements including 50-100mg of 5-HTP 4 nights a week.

I've noticed a bunch of gray hairs appear maybe 2 years ago. My MCV on a blood test was 100, after supplementing with B Complex it went down to 98 after 3 months.

Others don't notice the hairs like I can, if the light shines on them then they are more visible.

I wonder if L-Tyrosine might help with hair as it is linked to pigment? Could it reverse the gray hairs or stop them?
I also take B Complex with paba, 5K IU Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc 15mg with 0.75mg copper.

I'm taking around 150-250mg of L-tyrosine most mornings in my coffee.

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Graying may be reversible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Some hair may turn gray in your age. It appears when cells that produce melanin stop producing pigment. This is absolutely normal.

There is also a possibility that your gray hair is due to folate, b-12 deficiency and thyroid problem. Answering your question if you will correct these problems graying may be reversible.

Please note that if your parents or grandparents grayed at an early age it may indicate a genetic problem.

Also poor diet may be the reason. I suggest you to eat more green vegetables, beans, citrus fruit, poultry, fish and eggs.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Hi, thanks for reply.

I do have small areas of vitiligo on penile area and a bit around eyes since 15, however, these grey hairs arent on vitiligo areas.

Yes, the high MCV might be due to Vitamin B deficency which I feel is put right now after 5 months of daily b complex supplement. If this is the case, would the gray stop or reverse?

How about L-tryosine amino acid? It is linked to melanin and it might stop or reverse gray hair? I started taking it daily 200mg.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Graying may be reversible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

High MCV may be due to B12 deficiency but also due to folate deficiency so if the reason is B12 or folate deficiency graying may be reversible.

Answering your next question melanin is produced by the oxidation of the amino acid tyrosine so again if the reason is tyrosine deficiency graying may be reversible.

Best regards.
